Filters & Maintenance

How often should I replace the filters?

Filter life depends on the material being processed, smoke volume, daily usage time, and working environment. If you notice weaker suction, stronger odor, reduced filtration performance, or visible dust buildup, it may be time to replace one or more filters.

Typically, replacement intervals are as follows:

Pre-filter: Every 30-45 days

Medium filter: Every 5-6 months

Main filter: Every 6-8 months

FumeClear machines use separate filter layers, so in many cases you only need to replace the filter layer that is saturated instead of replacing the entire filter system.

Where can I buy FumeClear replacement filters?

You can purchase official FumeClear replacement filters directly from the FumeClear Filter Collection.

We offer replacement filters for all FumeClear fume extractor models, including pre-filter cotton, H13 HEPA filters, medium-efficiency filters, activated carbon filters, and complete filter sets. If you’re not sure which filter fits your machine, simply contact our support team with your model number, and we’ll help you choose the correct replacement.

Buying from the official FumeClear store ensures you receive genuine, compatible filters designed for your specific machine. We also offer first-order discounts and multi-buy savings, making it a reliable and cost-effective way to keep your fume extractor performing at its best.

How do I know which replacement filter fits my machine?

You can find replacement filters by selecting your FumeClear model in the Fume Extractor Filters collection. Each filter page will indicate the compatible machine model.

If you are not sure which filter you need, please contact us with your machine model and, if possible, a photo of your current filter. Our support team will help confirm the correct replacement.

Can I replace only one filter layer instead of the full filter set?

Yes. Many FumeClear fume extractors use a multi-layer filtration system, so you may only need to replace the filter layer that is saturated instead of replacing the entire filter set every time.

For example, pre-filters usually capture larger particles and dust, while HEPA filters and activated carbon filters handle finer particles and odors. Depending on your usage, some layers may need replacement earlier than others.

If you are not sure which layer needs to be replaced, please contact us with your machine model, application, and photos of your current filters. Our support team will help you confirm the correct replacement.

What should I do if suction becomes weak?

Weak suction is usually caused by a saturated filter, a blocked hose, a loose connection, or incorrect hood placement.

Please check the following first:

Make sure the hose is firmly connected to the machine and the smoke hood.
Check whether the hose is bent, blocked, or too far from the fume source.
Inspect the filters and replace any filter layer that appears clogged or saturated.
Place the smoke hood as close as possible to the smoke source for better capture efficiency.

If suction is still weak after these checks, please contact us with your machine model, usage scenario, and photos or videos of your setup. We will help you troubleshoot the issue step by step.

What should I do if odor becomes stronger?

If odor becomes stronger, it usually means the activated carbon filter is becoming saturated, the smoke volume is too high for the current setup, or the hood is not positioned close enough to the fume source.
Please first check whether the activated carbon filter needs replacement. Odor-heavy applications, such as laser cutting acrylic, rubber, leather, wood, resin, or working with chemical fumes, may consume carbon filters faster than light soldering or low-smoke applications.
You can also improve odor control by placing the hood closer to the source, reducing hose bends, and making sure the airflow path is not blocked.
If the odor remains strong, please contact us with your machine model, material, working time, and application details. Our team can help determine whether a replacement filter or a higher-capacity fume extractor is needed.

Product Manuals & Filters

How long do filters last?

It depends, on the material being processed, environmental conditions, smoke volume, etc... However, Fumeclear has high power and highest quality filters to maximize service life. The filters are also independent of each other, so you only need to replace a single filter that is used. This is not the case with combined filters. If part of a combined filter is used while the other half is still available, the entire filter must be discarded.

Usage Scenarios

Which FumeClear fume extractor should I choose?

The best model depends on your application, machine power, smoke volume, and the material you are working with. For light soldering or small desktop work, compact models such as FC-100A or FC-2001A may be suitable. For laser engraving and cutting, we usually recommend choosing based on laser power, material type, enclosure size, and smoke intensity. For heavy-duty laser cutting or industrial applications, models such as FC-2004, FC-350, XL-300, XL-500, or XL-700 may be more appropriate.

You can also refer to our Help Me Choose guidance:

If you are not sure which model to choose, please contact us with your machine type, laser power, material, and workspace size. Our team will help you recommend the most suitable option.

Can FumeClear fume extractors be used for laser engraving and laser cutting?A:

Yes. FumeClear offers multiple fume extractor models for laser engraving, laser cutting, laser marking, and enclosed laser workstations. The right model depends on your laser power, the materials you process, and the amount of smoke or odor generated.

For light desktop laser engraving, a smaller model may be enough. For cutting wood, acrylic, leather, rubber, or other materials that produce heavy smoke and odor, we recommend choosing a higher-power model with stronger airflow and more activated carbon filtration.

For more details, you can refer to our laser fume extractors Collection.

Can one fume extractor work for different applications?

Yes, many FumeClear fume extractors can be used for multiple applications, including soldering, laser engraving, 3D printing, nail salons, dental labs, and light industrial work. However, the filter configuration, airflow, hose size, and smoke volume requirements may vary by application.

For the best performance, we recommend choosing a model based on your primary use case and the amount of fumes, dust, or odor generated.

What type of fume extractor do I need for laser engraving?

Which FumeClear model is suitable for chemical fumes or strong odors?

For chemical fumes, VOCs, or strong odors, we recommend choosing a model with stronger activated carbon filtration, such as FC-350 or selected industrial models, depending on the application and fume volume. Please contact us with the chemical type, working process, and usage environment before purchasing so we can recommend a suitable solution.

Troubleshooting

What should I do if my machine does not turn on?

First, please check that the power cable is firmly connected and that the wall outlet is working. If the machine still does not turn on, the fuse may need to be checked or replaced. Some FumeClear models include built-in spare fuses that can be swapped if one fuse is damaged.

You can watch this short guide here:

How to Check or Replace the Fuse on a FumeClear Fume Extractor

If you are unsure how to check the fuse, please contact our support team with your order number, machine model, and a short video of the issue. We will help you troubleshoot step by step.

What should I do if the suction becomes weak?

Weak suction is usually caused by a saturated filter, blocked hose, loose connection, or incorrect hood placement. Please check whether the hose is firmly connected, whether the filter needs replacement, and whether the smoke hood is positioned close enough to the fume source.

If the suction is still weak after checking these steps, please contact us with your machine model, usage scenario, and photos or videos of the setup.
