Best Fume Extractor for xTool S1: Why xTool Users Choose FC-2004

Written by David

Published on August 21, 2026

The xTool S1 is a powerful enclosed diode laser engraver designed for both engraving and cutting. Like other laser processing machines, it can produce smoke, fine particles, and odors depending on the material and cutting or engraving settings.

For users who regularly work with wood, plywood, acrylic, leather, MDF, and other materials, effective smoke extraction is an important part of maintaining a cleaner workspace.

If you're looking for the best fume extractor for xTool S1, we recommend the FumeClear FC-2004, especially for xTool S1 40W users and those who frequently perform cutting or longer engraving jobs.

Does xTool S1 Need a Fume Extractor?

The xTool S1 includes a built-in smoke exhaust system and an exhaust pipe. xTool's user guide recommends extending the exhaust pipe outside a window or connecting it to a smoke purifier.

However, venting smoke outdoors isn't always practical. Many users rely on opening windows for ventilation, but this may not be the most comfortable or effective solution during extremely hot or cold seasons. If your S1 is used in a home studio, workshop, garage, classroom, or other indoor environment, a dedicated fume extractor can provide a more convenient way to capture and filter the exhaust.

The amount of smoke produced varies with the laser power, material, thickness, speed, power settings, and frequency of use. For users who regularly cut rather than only engrave, a higher-capacity extractor can be especially useful.

Why Choose FumeClear FC-2004 for xTool S1?

The FumeClear FC-2004 is designed for higher-intensity laser engraving and cutting applications. With 247 CFM (420 m³/h) airflow, a 75 mm air inlet, and three-stage filtration, it provides the extraction capacity needed for demanding laser applications.

Key Features

  • 247 CFM / 420 m³/h airflow
  • 3-stage filtration
  • 75 mm air inlet
  • 360W brushless motor
  • Noise level below 58 dB
  • Remote-controlled airflow adjustment
  • Compact design for workshops and studios

The three-stage filtration system combines particle filtration with activated carbon filtration to help deal with both airborne particles and odors generated during laser processing.

A Good Match for xTool S1 40W

The xTool S1 is available in different laser power configurations, and the 40W version is designed for more demanding cutting applications.

If you primarily use your S1 for occasional light engraving, you may not need the capacity of an FC-2004. But if you frequently use a 40W S1 for cutting wood, plywood, acrylic, MDF, or other smoke-producing materials, the FC-2004 is a strong choice.

The goal isn't simply to choose the largest extractor available. It's to match the extractor to your laser power, materials, and workload.

How to Use FumeClear FC-2004 with xTool S1

One important thing to know before setting up the FC-2004 is its inlet size.

The FC-2004 uses a 75 mm air inlet and comes with a 75 mm segmented hose as standard.

The package also includes:

  • Round silicone hood
  • Rectangular silicone hood

Simply place the hood over the laser's exhaust outlet for a quick and easy setup.

Step 1: Choose the Right Silicone Hood

Select the round or rectangular hood based on your xTool S1 exhaust outlet.

Step 2: Connect the Hose

Attach the hood to the included 75 mm segmented hose, then connect the hose to the 75 mm inlet of the FC-2004.

Step 3: Position the Hood

Place the silicone hood over the xTool S1 exhaust outlet to capture smoke and fumes.

Step 4: Start the Extractor

Turn on the FC-2004 before starting your laser job and keep the hood properly positioned.

Recommended setup:
xTool S1 → Silicone Hood → 75 mm Hose → FC-2004 → Filtration

What Can You Process with an xTool S1 + FC-2004?

The combination can be used for many common laser engraving and cutting applications, including:

Material Typical Concern
Wood Smoke and fine particles
Plywood Smoke and particles
MDF Dense smoke and particles
Acrylic Smoke and odors
Leather Smoke and odors
Paper Smoke and fine particles

However, a fume extractor does not make every material safe to laser. Always check the material manufacturer's recommendations and xTool's safety guidance before processing a new material. Some plastics and coatings can release hazardous or corrosive substances when heated.

FC-2004 vs. Smaller Fume Extractors

Not every xTool S1 user needs the same extraction capacity.

For lower-power laser applications, the FumeClear FC-2001X is a suitable option. For medium-intensity laser applications, the FC-2002 provides a balanced solution. For higher-intensity laser engraving and cutting, the FC-2004 is recommended for more demanding applications.

For an xTool S1 40W user who frequently cuts or engraves, the FC-2004 is our recommended option. If you frequently cut materials such as acrylic and plywood, we recommend the FC-350, which offers stronger filtration capacity for more demanding applications.

Who Should Choose the FC-2004?

The FC-2004 is particularly suitable for:

  • xTool S1 40W users
  • Users who frequently cut and engrave
  • Home workshops and studios
  • Small laser engraving businesses
  • Etsy sellers and makers
  • Users processing wood, plywood, MDF, acrylic, and similar materials
  • Users who need filtered exhaust instead of simply venting smoke indoors

Great fume extractor- 40watt laser

I use a Xtool S1 40 watt laser and this extractor works amazing! I've been extremely pleased with it. I've used it for several months now and I've not had any issues at all. I'd highly recommend it!

👤DoubleD After Purchasing FC-2002

I bought my fume extractor right after buying my X tool F1 Ultra. I did extensive research of fume extractors. This one appeared to be a great fume extractor at any price. X tools Fume Extractor is a $1000. I saved so much money buying this fume extractor and in my opinion, getting everything I needed. I've proven myself right. Alltogether, i've all my dealings with the fine folks at Fumeclear have always been positive, while caring responses.

I would never hesitate to recommend their products to anyone. When I start going to more laser shows and get my Eufymake E1 Printer. I will definitely be back for more!

👤Avery S After Purchasing FC-2002A

Great Fit for X tool Lasers

I am using this vac on two X Tool laser machines, the S1 and a F1. The fume collector works great on both devices and is able to keep up with heavy smoke from cutting wood and leather. The filters are easy to change and blow out. The machine did a good job of warning me that the filters were clogged before I was able to realize it. Overall, this has performed great so far at a fraction of the price, would purchase again.

👤ILY After Purchasing FC-2004

Just perfect

I love it from unpacking it. The extractor is very power and super efficient. I use it with xTool S1 laser engraver and do not feel any smell.

👤Carlos Saenz After Purchasing FC-2002

Works great

I wish the unit was easier to connect to my xtool D1 pro laser engraver, yet I was able to connect the hose from the enclosure to your hose using electrical tape to seal off the hoses. Works great and no smoke smell in my shop at all. Thanks
